Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Vag candidiasis 150 mg as single dose. Reduce incidence of recurrent vag candidiasis 150 mg once mthly. Duration of therapy: 4-12 mth. Candida balanitis 150 mg as single dose. Prevention of oropharyngeal candidiasis relapse in AIDS patient 150 mg once wkly. Cryptococcal meningitis & cryptococcal infections of other sites 400 mg on 1st day followed by 200-400 mg once daily. Duration of treatment for cryptococcal meningitis: 6-8 wk. Prevention of cryptococcal meningitis relapse in AIDS patient 200 mg daily. Prevention of candidiasis 50-400 mg once daily. Patient at high risk of systemic infections 400 mg once daily. Start several days before anticipated onset of neutropenia & continue for 7 days after neutrophil count rises >1,000 cells/mm3. Oropharyngeal candidiasis 50-100 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Atrophic oral candidiasis associated w/ dentures 50 mg once daily for 14 days concurrently w/ local antiseptic. Other mucosal candidal infections except genital candidiasis 50-100 mg daily for 14-30 days. Dermal infections including tinea pedis, corporis, cruris & candida infections 150 mg once wkly or 50 mg once daily. Duration of treatment: 2-4 wk but tinea pedis may require treatment for up to 6 wk. Tinea versicolor 50 mg once daily for 2-4 wk. Tinea unguium 150 mg once wkly, continued until infected nail is replaced.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Co-administration of terfenadine or cisapride.
Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, rash, headache, changes in renal & haematological function test results, hepatic abnormalities.
Drug Interactions
Coumarin anticoagulants, phenytoin, cyclosporine, rifampin, theophylline, terfenadine, cisapride, rifabutin, tacrolimus, sulfonylureas, hydrochlorothiazide, OCs, zidovudine.
